The top autumn and winter wedding trends for 2023

An expert has forecasted the wedding trends we can expect to see in the remainder of 2023. Wedding-goers in autumn and winter can expect to see a large emphasis on sustainability, DIY and an ode to all things vintage, according to Rachael Kiss from Alliance Online.

She commented: "Wedding trends change seasonally, so it's crucial wedding hosts stay ahead of the curve. Efficient spending, sustainability and a vintage feel are key focuses this season, and rightly so. Wedding hosts no longer have to feel obliged to over-indulge in their big day and can instead, save money."

Sustainable and affordable choices
"Sustainability isn't necessarily a trend but more so a deliberate choice to be eco-conscious, but it seems that increasingly, wedding hosts are opting for sustainable options. Plus, the cost of living crisis has meant that money is tighter than ever, so conscious spending has become a necessity for many, even on the big day.
"Many venues may expect an additional payment for certain table decorations so consider bulk buying from your chosen supplier. Sourcing your own candles, for example, will help keep your costs down. Dressing the tables yourself is not only more personalised but it allows you to have more control over cost.
"Wedding dresses are notorious for soaking up the majority of the budget, so, repurpose or upcycle a wedding dress that is a family heirloom; it helps that the vintage look is trending! If not, there are many apps that allow you to rent clothes for a small cost. Borrow items from family and friends and if you already own items that fit your wedding theme, incorporate them so you don't have to re-buy."

Bold colour schemes
"After years of weddings being slimmed down due to the pandemic, now is the time to celebrate and lean on a bold colour scheme. Terracotta, navy and magenta, thanks to the release of Barbie earlier this year, are all anticipated colours for weddings this autumn and winter. If you're having a winter wedding, opt for a deep red or emerald green to achieve the classic Christmas wedding. A bold colour scheme will be memorable, so don't shy away from making a statement.
"Although deciding on your colour scheme can be a tough decision, incorporating your chosen colour into your wedding is easy. Use the colour in table settings such as tablecloths, table runners and napkins to keep the theme consistent. You can even serve a signature cocktail that uses your wedding colour."

Interactive food and beverage experiences
"Interactive food and beverage experiences are set to be hugely popular. Anything 'DIY' is a great way to involve your guests in some personalisation, and you still decide on what food to serve. Think of a DIY doughnut station, personalised nachos tray, 'pimp your Prosecco' or a potato bar. Even the classic chocolate fountain adds an element of fun and engagement to the celebration."

Retro style wedding cakes
"Retro style wedding cakes are set to be hugely popular. The popularity of the hit TV show Bridgeton has encouraged Brits to fall head over heels for the Regency era. A retro cake evokes a sense of nostalgia and a desire for comfort that's perfect for the colder months. The layers of colourful and intricate piping makes it a true centrepiece of the day. Include seasonal elements on the cake such as rustic decorations, foliage, berries and even a subtle reference to Christmas or Halloween."
